Gift
Romans 6:23 (NLT)
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
We all want to live a life free of consequences. It would be great to eat the junk food without gaining weight or to jump off a building without going splat. But life just doesn’t work that way. It can be tempting to do something that seems harmless or to make a choice that we think won’t have any repercussions. But no matter what we do, there are always consequences.
At first glance, it may seem like a harsh and unforgiving statement, but it’s actually a reminder of God’s love for us. He knows that sin and wrong choices lead to death and destruction. So, He reminds us that the wages of sin is death.
But He’s not done there. He doesn’t just leave us with a reminder of the consequences of sin. He also gives us a gift – the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. He wants us to choose life, and He’s given us the ultimate gift to make that choice possible.
So, when we’re tempted to make a wrong choice, we can remember what Romans 6:23 tells us. We need to remind ourselves that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. This reminder can help us make the right choice in any situation.
Our choices have consequences, and God wants us to be aware of them. But He also wants us to know that He has provided a way out of death and destruction. He has given us the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
Let’s be thankful for God’s love and grace that gives us the opportunity to choose life instead of death. Let’s take advantage of this gift and make the right choices in our lives, so that we can experience the joy and peace that come from living in obedience to God.
